5 Homemade Remedies For Healthy Skin

  1. The Avocado, Almond and Oatmeal Body Scrub:
    The combination of avocado, almond and oatmeal make for an enriching and soothing body scrub. The oats are rich in vitamin E and anti inflammatory properties. This enables it to stop any itching due to drying and soothes the skin. The almonds due to its natural emollient properties work as an excellent exfoliant while the avocado rich in vitamins A, D and E comprise of collagen building properties.
    Ingredients: ½ cup almonds, 1 cup dry oatmeal, 1 ripe avocado and 1 mitt
    Method: Mix coarsely ground almonds with the oatmeal and place it in the mitt. Mash avocado and scoop it out using the mitt and rub it on the skin of your entire body. Rinse after some time and pat dry.
    You can use the avocado peel as a massage tool after scrubbing all over!
  2. The Clay Powder Mask:
    Mother earth is generous source of natural resources providing the best ingredients to care for your skin. Two such ingredients are: clay and mineral water. These combined with other ingredients can make for an excellent face mask customized to suit dry, normal, oily and combination skin types. Many South East Asian cultures make use of this face mask for a healthy glow.
    Ingredients: 1 – 2 tablespoon clay powder, mineral/spring water sufficient enough to make a paste, 1 tbsp olive oil for dry skin, 1 tbsp plain yogurt for normal skin and 2 tbsp lemon juice for oily and combination skin.
    Method: Mix sufficient mineral/spring water with the clay to form a smooth paste. Mix olive oil or plain yogurt or lemon juice depending upon your skin type with the clay paste. Apply the paste over the face with fingertips or spatula. Avoid the under – eye area. Keep for 15 minutes, rinse with warm water and pat dry for a glowing skin.
  3. Pineapple, Papaya and Honey Exfoliating Mask:
    This is a simple yet effective remedy for dry and ageing skin. The pineapple in this remedy works as an exfoliant and provides anti ageing nutrients by stimulating collagens. The papaya exfoliates and softens the skin while honey helps the skin stay moisturized, calm and soothed.
    Ingredients: 1 ripe papaya – medium size, ½ inch square two chunks of fresh pineapple and ½ tsp honey.
    Method: Mash the papaya and pineapple. Mix the honey with the mashed fruits. Apply to the skin and keep it on for 15 minutes. Rinse off with cool water.
  4. Sea Salt Foot Soak And Body Bath:
    Treat your body to a spa style foot soak or body bath using sea salt and essential oils. Ideal for all skin types this foot soak/body bath helps the body relax and attain a calm and balanced state of mind. The essential oils offer benefits depending upon its properties. You can mix any oil you feel matches your mood!
    Ingredients for foot soak: ¼ cup sea salt, a pedicure bowl, hot water and essential oils like lavender, sandalwood, rose, lemon, patchouli, tangerine, tea tree, vetiver, chamomile or any other essential oil of your liking.
    Method: Pour hot water in a pedicure basin or any other bowl. Mix sea salt and add 10 – 15 drops of essential oil to it. Now soak your feet in it. For bath, you can increase the volume by three.
  5. Vanilla Extracts, Grape Seed Oil and Essential Oils:
    This recipe is an instant massage for beautiful hands and nails. It makes use of vanilla extracts combined with grape seed oil and essential oils for that manicured look.
    Ingredients: 5 drops vanilla extracts, 1 drop sandalwood oil, 2 drops lavender oil, ½ cup each of grape seed oil and brown sugar.
    Method: Mix the ingredients together in a manicure bowl and dip your fingers in it for 5 minutes. Then submerge your hands in a bowl of warm water to remove the excessive oil and pat them dry. You can moisturize your hands by using a hand moisturizer or cream for beautiful hands and nails.
