8 Creative Ways to Make Extra Money

This Article is Posted in Category: Job & Career

With today’s economy, it seems like everyone is in a need of a little financial assistance.  Even people with day jobs are complaining about the lack of money.  It seems as if the money that people are making just go towards bills and maintaining a somewhat comfortable lifestyle.  Not much is left for extraneous expenses, things we want, traveling, dining out and so forth.  Making a few extra hundred bucks can make quite a big difference and the best thing about that is there are plenty of ways to make a little extra cash!

1. Freelance Writing:

Do you have a way with words?  Are you great at doing your own research?  Can you convey your thoughts clearly through writing?  If you answered yes to all of the above, then you’ve got all the essential requirements to do some freelance writing on the side.  There are many blog networks that are always looking for new writers.  Then of course there are certain local papers that look for temporary writers.  Another way to use your writing abilities is by creating your own blog!  Making your own blog takes time and commitment, but once you have a solid blog, you can make money off of it with ads.

2. Clean Homes:

It’s the 21st century, women are no longer confined in their homes and expected to take care of the home.  In most households, both husband and wife carry day jobs.  Couples who work day jobs and have children to take care of often feel overwhelmed.  Many households are looking for a little help maintaining their home once every few days, once a week, or once every few weeks.  You can make a decent amount of money even if you clean sporadically.

3. Bartending:

Bartending is perfect for the night owls, people who love people, people who can tolerate drunk people and people who can multitask.  This can be a fun way to make money.  You’ll also be able to save a good amount of money since you’ll be working at a bar instead of spending money at a bar!

4. Sell Unwanted Jewelry:

If you have unwanted gold, silver, or platinum jewelry that you no longer want, consider selling it!  Selling diamonds for cash (or gold, silver, platinum, etc) can score you some instant cash.  Just be sure to do your homework before you go into a store to sell your jewelry.  Check the market value of gold, know the carats of your diamonds and find a reputable jewelry buyer to sell to.

5. Tutor:

Are you a rockstar at math, science, english, history, SAT prep, GRE prep or even MCATs and LSATs?  Use your brain to net you some extra cash-literally!  Tutoring gigs, depending on the subject you teach and how knowledgeable you are, can pay up to 50 an hour!

6. Take Care of Someone’s Kid:

Not everyone works well with kids, not everyone should be trusted with kids.  However, if you blessed with the ability to handle rowdy kids with grace and composure, then consider babysitting.  Couples are going to be looking for some mommy-daddy time, so there are always plenty of opportunities for babysitting!

7. Do Yard Work & Work on Your Farmer’s Tan:

You may not be as skilled as Edward scissorhands, but as long as you can work a lawnmower, use some tree shears and manage to not kill the plants, then you’re qualified to do some basic yard work.  Households are trying to save money as well.  Instead of hiring professional tree care services, they’re opting to hire temp work.

8. Fiverr.com:

What would you do for 5 bucks?  Check out this site, www.fiverr.com, where you can offer your services for 5 bucks!  Some ideas to get you started: “I will dance around in spandex onesie for 3 minutes for $5”, “I will juggle a chainsaw and knives”, or something more practical “I will write a 500 word article”.  You’d be surprised what people will pay 5 bucks for!

Even if you have a stable job, it’s wise to look for a secondary source of income to provide for increased expenses and add to your financial security..
