It is an age-old fact that many women will do almost anything to look good. Ten years ago, going to a spa to put your feet in water only to be nibbled at by small fish would have been unheard of but these days, they are everywhere and the fish spa craze has proved very successful. There are many more bizarre treatments women (and sometimes men!) will put themselves through; we have outlined the strangest and most bizarre here.
Platza leaf oak treatment
This treatment originates from Russia and involves a rather harsh beating with a special broom. The broom of course is no ordinary cleaning utensil and is made from olive oil drenched oak leaves which are meant to exfoliate dead skin and remove toxins. Although not considered one of the most relaxing treatments you can sign up for, it is apparently very effective and leaves your skin super soft.

Collagen foot injections
Thought collagen injections were just for lips and faces? These days, if the balls of your feet are hurting from your crippling heels or too much dancing, collagen has its uses as it can be injected to provide cushioning! Many women reportedly use it as a protective measure if they know they are going to be on their feet for a long time in killer shoes. For a less invasive solution shoe inserts can provide the some comfort for a fraction of the price.

Toe removal
Yes, you heard right. While we are on the subject of feet and unsuitable shoes, some women are actually prepared to go under the knife and remove a toe, all in the name of fashion. Cosmetic clinics are now offering a procedure which removes the little toe of each foot meaning narrow, high fashion shoes can be worn without the discomfort of pinching. Rumour has it that several celebrities have gone for the op so they can walk the red carpet painlessly.
Snail slime face cream
In the last few years scientists have decided that the slivery slime snails leave in a trail behind them could actually be put to good use in our beauty regimes. This originates from Chilean snail farmers who realised if the slime got anywhere near cuts or skin problems their skin healed quickly and left no scar. Since then the market has exploded and women all over the world are applying this by product directly onto their faces to repair damaged skin, wrinkles and hyper pigmentation. This cream can be bought in salons for home use, or if you are feeling flush, can be administered by a therapist as part of a luxury facial.

Snake massage
Forget traditional methods when it comes to relaxing and loosening those tense muscles. If you really want a massage with a difference then this may be up your street. Using our invertebrate friends to relax muscles and relive tension is proving a hit in all the major cities and has come a long way from the little salon it originated in Israel. They don’t come cheap though and you can expect to pay upwards form £60 for a half hour massage.

Vampire facelift
This is probably the oddest treatment of all and is proving to be very popular in the US. At around £400 it doesn’t come cheap and involves taking blood from the arm and injecting it into the face to improve circulation lines leaving the face plump and youthful. It isn’t quite that simple however, as after the blood is taken from the arm it is mixed with a chemical mixture to thicken it. It is said to improve tissue growth when injected into the face and is more ‘natural’ than botox however the squeamish may not get last the fist few minutes without fainting.
