You deserve a vacation. Yes, you. Everyone deserves to get away once and a while. If you’ve been working too hard, you should schedule in some fun and relaxation. Vacations have a way of rejuvenating us and reigniting our passions. Unfortunately, not everyone can just get up and go whenever they please. Vacations require some planning ahead. Before you go on a vacation this year, you should first ask yourself these five questions.

What is your budget for your trip?

Vacations can be expensive, and it’s really easy to get carried away and spend more than you wanted to. Before you start making reservations or planning your trip, figure out what you can afford to spend. Set your budget at an amount less than you can afford to leave room for overspending or unexpected costs. You want to enjoy your vacation without worrying about your bank account. It’s very important to come up with a concrete number at the start.

What do want to do on your vacation?

Some people’s idea of a vacation is lying on a sandy, white beach. Others want to go sightseeing in a foreign country with historical significance. Or maybe your idea of a vacation is an adventurous camping trip. Decide what type of vacation you want to go on. You should do whatever is most enjoyable for you, even if it’s something most other people wouldn’t do for a vacation.

How will you protect your house while you’re gone?

Going on a long vacation leaves your home and belongings vulnerable to thieves and burglary. Before you go on vacation, take some safety precautions to protect them. Leave your outside lights on so your house isn’t totally dark. Ask a trusted neighbor to keep an eye on things for you. Also, ask the post office and newspaper to hold your deliveries until you return so the piled up newspapers won’t clue thieves in to your absence.

Who do you want to go with you?

Most people don’t want to go on vacation alone, so consider who you want to come with you. You should go on vacation with the person or persons whose company you’ll enjoy the most. You’ll probably go with your spouse, for example. But do you want to make it a vacation for the whole family, or would you rather have alone time and leave the kids at Grandma’s? Do you want to bring your one best friend, or the entire group? You might want to go alone, and that’s perfectly acceptable, too.

When will you go on your vacation?

You should strategically plan when to take your vacation. If you have a particular destination in mind, you might want to find out what time of year has the most ideal weather. Alternatively, going in the off-season might be less expensive. You’ll also have to find out if your boss will give you the time off. You should request and get approved for vacation time before you make any reservations, just in case.
